Wrisco Winternationals kicks off at East Bay

On Monday afternoon, Shane Clanton followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) for the opening round of the 45th annual Wrisco Winternationals. In a stout field of 76 cars, Clanton edged his way into the opening night feature with the third and final transfer position in his heat. With $5,000 on the line, Shane clawed forward three spots in the caution-plagued feature to come home 13th. (Heath Lawson photos)

For the second round of the Winternationals on Tuesday, Shane followed up the sixth fastest lap in his time trial group with an eight-lap heat race victory. Earning the sixth-starting position for the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature, Clanton made hard contact with the wall on the opening lap that eventually saw him retire seven laps later.

After sitting out Wednesday night’s program to replace a motor, Clanton laid down the fourth fastest lap in his time trial group on Thursday before placing second in his heat race behind Bobby Pierce. Starting the feature in eighth, Shane was involved in a multi-car tangle on lap 14 that saw him and three other cars exit the track for the remainder of the evening.

On Friday night, Shane followed up the third fastest time in his qualifying group with a 10-lap heat race victory. With $12,000 on the line in the feature, Clanton held his spot for all 50-laps to register a fifth-place finish behind Brandon Overton, Tyler Bruening, Tim McCreadie, and Devin Moran.

Wrapping up the 45th annual Wrisco Winternationals on Saturday, Clanton posted a seventh place finish in his heat, giving him one final shot at the $15,000-to-win A-Main with a B-Main appearance. Failing to place second or better, Shane was granted a provisional into the show. Starting in 26th, Shane Clanton was an early retiree from the 50-lapper on lap 25.
