Clanton notches fifth-place finish in Clash at the Mag prelim

Taking part in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) tripleheader weekend, Shane Clanton visited Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Miss.) on Thursday afternoon for the 13th annual Optima Batteries Clash at the Mag. Drawing 44 Late Models for the event co-sanctioned with the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS), Clanton secured his spot into the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature with a second-place finish in his heat behind Mike Marlar. With severe weather set to hit the area on Saturday afternoon, officials scratched Friday’s final preliminary night and shifted the $12,000-to-win Clash at the Mag to Friday. Losing one spot in his heat race to finish third, Shane earned the ninth-starting position for the A-Main. Unable to gain any ground in the 50-lapper, Clanton recorded a 10th-place finish.

Shane is seventh in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
