Clanton records sixth-place finish at Volusia

On Monday night Shane Clanton was one of 44 DIRTcar Late Models on hand at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) for the 49th annual DIRTcar Nationals. After timing in seventh fastest in his time trial group, Clanton was a scratch from both his heat and B-Main.

Following the fourth fastest time in his qualifying group on Tuesday, Shane scored a 5th place finish in hs heat race, transferring him into the B-Main. Picking up a 10-lap consolation victory, Clanton locked into the 20th-starting position for the $7,000-to-win A-Main. Losing one spot in the 30-lap affair, Shane logged a 21st place outing.

On Wednesday evening for the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series sanctioned contest, Clanton laid down the eighth fastest lap in his time trial group before placing 2nd in his heat behind Jimmy Owens. Passing three cars in the 40-lap feature, Shane notched a 6th place finish.

For the fourth round of the 49th annual DIRTcar Nationals on Thursday, Shane posted a runner-up finish in his heat behind Mike Marlar which positioned him 10th on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Clanton dropped two spots in the 40-lapper to place 12th. (Jimmy Dearing photo)
