Podium finish in Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence

Shane Clanton was one of 53 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on hand at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) on Wednesday afternoon for the 34th annual Ralph Latham Memorial. Following the seventh fastest time in his qualifying group, Clanton notched a runner-up finish in his heat, which positioned him seventh on the starting grid for the opening night feature. With $12,000 on the line, Shane challenged leader Jimmy Owens for the lead after a lap-36 restart but came up short to finish second behind Owens with Ricky Weiss, Tim McCreadie, and Hudson O’Neal rounding out the Top-5. The following night for the North/South Shootout, Shane edged his way into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with the third and final transfer spot in his heat race. Rolling off 18th, Clanton marched forward four spots to register a 14th place outing.

With a pair of heat races on Friday afternoon setting the grid for the North/South 100 on Saturday, Clanton jumped up two spots in his first heat to capture the 13-lap victory. After Mother Nature shifted the second round to Saturday afternoon, Shane charged forward four spots to finish fifth.

Sitting in seventh overall in passing points, Clanton locked into the seventh-starting position for the Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100. Dropping two spots in the 100-lap affair, Shane notched a ninth place finish.

Shane climbed to sixth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
